Dr. Joseph Schwartz has specialized in school, clinical and forensic psychology for over 35 years. Dr. Schwartz has fine-tuned his psychological expertise. He can help patients with mental disorders, marital disagreements, parenting conflicts, and occupational issues. He also offers legal services, including psychological evaluations and expert witness testimony. He has assisted attorneys addressing legal questions pertinent to high conflict co-parenting difficulties, domestic violence and abuse, violence and sex offender risk assessment, psycho-sexual issues, developmental disorders, learning disabilities, head injury, neuropsychological functioning, cognitive ability, psychological/emotional damages for Family Law, Criminal and Civil Court. He has provided expert advice and legal consultation regarding various parenting and psychological issues including: Psychological and Neuropsychological testing, Parenting Plans, and School and Home evaluations.

Currently, Dr. Schwartz maintains a Private Practice in Rehoboth Beach  and Wilmington DE. Since 1993 he maintained a long standing practice in Staten Island, New York where he was frequently called asked to testify for the Family Court. Dr. Schwartz travels to evaluate all parties and to testify when needed. He thoroughly interviews all parties and records investigative sessions with consents if needed. Dr. Schwartz’s reports are quite detailed and in depth but easily read with extensive clinical and investigative data supporting the report’s opinion, summary and recommendations. 

Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University in New York, NY where he received his training in Psychodynamic and Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Schwartz was the recipient of a Post-Doctoral Fellowship to the Regent Hospital NYC. In addition, he had the privilege of personally studying under two of psychology’s most influential figures Dr. Albert Ellis and Dr. Arnold Lazarus. Dr. Ellis was the founder of one of the first cognitive therapies Rational Emotive Therapy, and Dr. Lazarus  a behavior therapy pioneer and a world-renowned author. 

Dr. Schwartz is licensed in Delaware and New York. He is a member of the American Psychological Association as well as the National Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. In his spare time, Dr. Schwartz enjoys cooking, exercise, and yoga. He’s also been an avid practitioner of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) stress reduction technique.
